The most exciting events in Kensington throughout July 2019

Summer is well and truly here come July in Kensington. It’s a fantastic time to visit our little corner of London with glorious sunshine, everyone in an al fresco mood and gigs galore taking over London.

Just because it’s festival season around the county doesn’t mean we are going to miss out here in the capital. With some of the biggest names in music performing in Hyde Park to strawberries and cream being dished out in SW19, if you’re staying here at Fraser Suites Kensington throughout July 2019 and wondering what you can get up to,  we have you covered.

Here is our list of some of the biggest events taking place this month, along with information on how to get there.

Top Events in Kensington in July 2019:

    The Wimbledon Championships

Summer gets into full swing every July in Kensington as tennis fever hits London. This year’s tournament takes place right at the start of the month, so we’re expecting the weather to be fantastic on the Monday morning, as is tradition. Will it be back to back wins for Novak Djokovic or will there be more upset in the women’s singles championships this year?

Tickets for the championship are like gold dust, with the ballots for pre-application having closed before Christmas 2018. It is common nearer the time for tickets to be released day by day on the site, and you can try your luck here.

Getting to Wimbledon from Fraser Suites Kensington

A good thing to know when visiting Wimbledon; Wimbledon Tube Station is not the closest station to the event. You’re much better getting off at Southfields Station as its closest to the queue for getting in. You can get there directly from Gloucester Road station just around the corner and taking District Line directly to Southfields station in roughly 19 minutes.

A rideshare or hired car will take on average 25 minutes, depending on traffic.

British Summer Time at Hyde Park

While people think all the action this month is taking place down at the All England Club, just around the corner from Fraser Suites Kensington in Hyde Park, British Summer Time is back with one of the most unique line-ups you’ll get from a festival.  The week-long event takes world-renowned artists you wouldn’t usually expect to play big outdoor gigs and pops them in the heart of London.

This year they’ve outdone themselves. Acts performing at BST Hyde Park include:

    • Celine Dion
    • Josh Groban
    • Stevie Wonder
    • Lionel Richie
    • Barbara Streisand
    • Bryan Ferry
    • Kris Kristofferson
    • Florence & The Machine
    • The National
    • Lykke Li
    • Robbie Williams
    • Black Eyed Peas
    • Keane
    • Texas

It’s undoubtedly as eclectic as you can get with a festival. You can find out more information about tickets on the BST Hyde Park website.

Getting to BST at Hyde Park

There are entrances to the event all around the park. It will take 20 minutes to walk the 0.9miles from your room to Hyde Park, and we would recommend taking the Garden Entrance just at the bottom corner of the Serpentine.

You can also get the tube from Gloucester Road station to Hyde Park Corner (three stops) and enter via the South Entrance.

    Other notable events this month

While the grass courts of Wimbledon and fields of Hyde Park is where most of the fun happens this July, there are some other notable events in Kensington, and nearby you’ll want to know about too. Some of our picks for the month include:

    Just V Show

    • Date: 5th – 7th July
    • Venue: Olympia London

It used to be quite hard to have a vegetarian or vegan diet, but times are changing and you can now pop into a well-known bakers for a vegan sausage roll or have no trouble getting vegan options on a menu.

One of the best events for vegans takes place the first weekend of the month as Just V Show takes over Olympia London. It is a food-centric event showcasing the latest improvements in food that can make it easier to pivot towards a plant-based diet. Expect samples galore on everything from impossible meats to dairy-free desserts.

The event also runs in tandem with Bloom (a cosmetics exhibition) and The Allergy & Free From Show, so you’re getting three events in one.

    Somerset House Summer Series

    • Date: 11th – 21st July
    • Venue: Somerset House

Arguably the trendiest festival taking place in London throughout the month, Somerset House Summer Series is more than just a tongue twister.

For over a week, you’ll get the chance to see artists like Doves, The Internet, Cut Copy, Gossip and Damon Albarn’s The Good, The Bad & The Queen perform headlining sets in one of London’s most historic settings.

Tickets for the events are priced between £31.25-£48.75, depending on which act you’re going to see.

    Citadel Festival

    • Date: 14th July
    • Venue: Gunnersbury Park

Just a 25-minute journey from your room on the Piccadilly Line will see you right in front of top acts like Bastille, Friendly Fires and Catfish & The Bottlemen at Citadel.

The festival promises to have some of London’s best street food on site, as well as unique activities you won’t get at other festivals. That includes trying out space yoga, catching a quick workout at The Spandex Stage and taking part in a Space Pub Quiz if you know your rockets from your black holes.

If you’re here on that Sunday and don’t have any plans, it’s a unique way to spend the day.

    London Film & Comic Con

    • Date: 26th to 28th July
    • Venue: Olympia London

Avengers Assemble!....along with Star Wars, Harry Potter, James Bond, Star Trek and Game of Thrones fan. The London Film & Comic Con takes over Olympia London for the last weekend of the month to provide one of the best comic conventions in the UK.

TV and film fanatics will love the guest line-up they have with everyone from Robert Carlyle and Jason Momoa to Christina Ricci and Jenna Coleman all scheduled to make appearances. Even if you’re not a big comic book fan, it is a great day out.
